Update: New transit service for Gadsden County residents begins Monday
Starting Monday, residents will be able to travel back and forth between Leon and Gadsden counties through the “Gadsden Express Transit Service.”
The new service is provided through a federal grant, and the goal is to reduce commuting costs for Gadsden County residents by 80 percent, according to the county’s Planning and Community Development Department.
Five trips per day will be provided between 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. A one-way fare for service is $1. Customers may also purchase a 20-ride ticket for $18 or a 40-ride ticket for $35.
“It is our hope and overall goal for the Gadsden Express to provide affordable and eco-friendly transportation for our residents commuting to and from Tallahassee,” said County Administrator Johnny Williams, in a written statement.
Although the transit service will begin Monday, the event will officially launch on 9 a.m. April 19 Winn-Dixie parking lot in Quincy, which is the first stop of the Gadsden Express.
In addition, the second stop will be at Midway City Hall, and the second stop will be at Tallahassee Community College before arriving at StarMetro’s Gate A in C.K. Steele Plaza
Fares can be purchased at Big Bend Transit Office, located at 324 W. Crawford St. in Quincy.
