Economic & Workforce Task Force Meeting Held Tuesday, September 22
Today ORT held its second E/WD Task Force meeting, at Tallahassee Community College. Many thanks to TCC President Bill Law for hosting the meeting and offering insightful remarks. Bottom line: a well-trained workforce is key to any vision for economic vitality, whether global, regional, or local. TCC provides a regional resource for professional certifications, re-training, and other extensive workforce education, in addition to their conventional degree offerings.
Task Force Chair Bo Taff led a more in-depth discussion of our region’s context, as we better understand the trajectory our region is on if we make no changes in approach or strategy. A data presentation of key indicators—from per capita income to poverty rates to educational attainment, for example—was part of the discussion.
Taff presented a set of key findings, which were refined by the Task Force members today, and includes:
- Watershed issues
- Key features and assets
- Quality of life
- Global context
- World class talent
- Brand awareness
- Brain drain
- Infrastructure capacity
- Development/growth patterns
- Critical issues
- Unique opportunities
Next steps are to address “Where do we want to go?”, which will be taken up in the next E/WD Task Force meeting.
