TalTech: Organizing Technology Industry for the Region

January 21, 2010 | Blog

We presented before the TalTech Alliance yesterday at lunch. Discussion focused on opportunities for economic development in this region for clean, high tech jobs. Key ingredients for such an economy are found in the region, with universities and colleges supporting the knowledge economy and small businesses poised to take advantage of opportunities with state government.

The government of the State of Florida spends over $60 billion per year, by far the largest “industry” in our region. Many technology companies in the region support government functions and are innovating new technologies and new ideas to solve real world problems.

One challenge is brain drain: talented college graduates leaving the region upon graduation for better jobs and better opportunities elsewhere. A stronger high tech economy in this region could provide more opportunities for these graduates.

The TalTech Alliance provides an organizing framework for small and large businesses to build toward a true tech community in the region. At this time of year, TalTech is paying close attention to public policy considerations in the Florida Legislature which may improve the climate and mechanisms for doing business with the state government.

Stay tuned for announcements about the annual Tech Expo, which is to be held in late April. Learn more about TalTech at www.taltech.org; follow the organization on Twitter and on Facebook.
